United World Wrestling, the sport’s global governing body, has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with sports nutrition company MusclePharm.
The deal, which runs across 2015 and 2016, comes a few months after the organisation’s partnership with mat-provider Taishan and is part of its ongoing process to increase the commercial presence of the sport following a rebrand from the International Wrestling Federation (FILA).
United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic said: “The focus of this partnership is to improve the education of wrestlers when it comes to nutrition. We want our athletes informed about safe solutions to making weight and the use of supplements.
“Our sport needs partners who will play an integral part of improving the sport of wrestling. MusclePharm has proven experience with nutritional supplements and we were impressed that their strategy is based on education and giving athletes the best product. We’ve also been assured that MusclePharm will abide to the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) code.”
Chinese sports equipment manufacturer Taishan signed a deal with United World Wrestling through to 2020 in September.
