UK sportswear company Umbro has signed a kit supply deal with Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Santos.
The length of the deal was not disclosed but it will begin in March 2018. Umbro will replace Italian sportswear brand Kappa as the club’s kit supplier.
The Maquina do Esporte website reported that Santos’ deal with Umbro will net the club R$2.5m (€656,000/$772,000) per season, compared to the R$4m it receives from Kappa. The Kappa agreement encompassed a broader partnership in the production and distribution of kit.
Umbro has a pre-existing relationship with Santos, having supplied the club’s kits from 1997 to 2011.
Santos president Modesto Roma Júnior said: “We had four proposals for the kit for 2018 and 2019. We received, analysed and evaluated these four proposals. We took into account values, material, acceptance of the target audience, our supporters, and the way we have worked in recent years. And we have chosen to realign our partnership with Umbro.”
