German financial services company Nürnberger Versicherungsgruppe has renewed its title sponsorship of Women’s Tennis Association event the Nuremberg Cup.
The company’s deal with the tournament had expired after this year’s edition but the two parties have agreed to an extension, which will see the 2016 event retain its official title of the Nürnberger Versicherungscup.
The renewal will see Germany stage two WTA events next year, the Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart being the other. Nürnberger Versicherungsgruppe has sponsored the previous three editions of the Nuremberg Cup, which was first staged in 2013.
“Without the Nürnberger Versicherungsgruppe there would be no second WTA tournament in Germany,” tournament director Sandra Reichel said. “The response of the audience and sponsors has confirmed to us in the first three years that we have made the right choice. The positive development of the tournament has shown that we are on the right track.”
The 2016 edition of the tournament will take place from May 14-21. The 2015 final was an all-Italian affair as Karin Knapp (pictured) defeated Roberta Vinci.
