Telecommunications company Vodafone has entered into a partnership with the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC).
Under the agreement, Vodafone Fiji will sponsor the country’s athletes at this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The partnership gives the company the official title of ‘Gold Sponsor Team Fiji’. It is the first such deal agreed by FASANOC.
Joseph Rodan, FASANOC president, said: “Vodafone are already sponsors of rugby and soccer and their coming on board to again sponsor (Team Fiji) is something that will go a long way for Vodafone and Team Fiji. For Vodafone being a 100 per cent local company we are grateful that they have come onboard.”
Fiji will take 89 athletes to Rio 2016, which will take place from August 5-21. Team Fiji has so far qualified for events in rugby sevens, football, shooting and table tennis, with the qualification processes for athletics, swimming, weightlifting, judo and archery still ongoing.
