Scottish football clubs will from next season be permitted to use an additional area of their playing jerseys for sponsorship purposes, the Scottish Professional Football League has announced.
As of the 2016-17 campaign, each of the SPFL’s 42 member clubs will be able to feature a sponsor’s branding immediately below the squad number on the backs of their kits. The space allocated to this additional branding opportunity will be 100 square centimetres.
SPFL clubs can currently feature branding on the fronts of their jerseys, and on the backs above the squad number. The SPFL has approved plans for a third sponsorship placement after a working group featuring member clubs recommended that changes be made.
“We are pleased to announce this additional opportunity for member clubs to sell another space on player kits to current or prospective sponsors,” Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive, said. “The SPFL board would like to thank all those club representatives who participated in the working group which is behind this positive change.”
