Sevilla bets on temporary shirt sponsor

INTERWETTEN GROUP, the Austria-based online sports gambling brand, has signed a deal with Spanish La Liga team Sevilla FC that will see the logo for its Interwetten.es domain appear on the club’s shirts.

Interwetten was recently granted permission to operate in Spain but has stated that its logo will only appear on the shirts “until the club closes a deal with a brand from a different industry”.

“We are delighted to have obtained our license in Spain and to be able to cooperate with Sevilla FC, a club with a history full of success,” said Wolfgang Fabian, co-founder of Interwetten.

“Sevilla FC members and fans can be sure that Interwetten.es will be a great ally and will offer them all we have to guarantee them a safe experience with us.

“The whole Interwetten family is happy with this big agreement achieved with Sevilla FC, which is part of our worldwide sponsorship plan.”

Interwetten’s “worldwide sponsorship plan” also includes a three-year deal with German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, signed last month, and five deals signed in March with Italian Serie A teams Udinese, FC Parma, Novara Calcio, Siena and Lecce.

The brand’s sports marketing portfolio also extends to the Lotus Formula One team and the Interwetten Paddock Team from Moto2.

Sevilla has been without a permanent shirt sponsor since May 2011 when Asian-based online betting brand 12BET opted not to renew its initial two-year deal.

The club, which finished ninth in La Liga last season, is reported to be holding out for a deal in the region of at least €3m per year.
