Australian commercial broadcaster Seven has been named as an official supplier of the 2018 edition of the Commonwealth Games multi-sport event, which will be held in Australia’s Gold Coast region.
The agreement expands Seven’s backing of the Games, which run from April 4-15.
Seven had already agreed a deal to cover the event, and it will serve as a joint host broadcaster alongside NEP Group and Sunset+Vine. The latest agreement marks the first time that Seven has sponsored the Games.
Seven West Media chief executive Tim Worner said: “We are proud to have developed such a strong working relationship with Mark (Peters, chief executive of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation) and his team, and by completing the triumvirate of rights-holder, broadcaster and now official supplier we are demonstrating our commitment to helping make the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games the biggest and best yet.
“Our coverage of the Games will be unprecedented. In addition to comprehensive coverage across our broadcast channels, our app will feature up to 16 HD channels covering every sport, with live streaming, on-demand highlights, full match replays, schedules, results, medal tallies and athlete profiles. It will provide a totally immersive experience for Australian fans.”
Seven acquired exclusive domestic broadcast rights to Gold Coast 2018 back in August 2014.
