International holding company EG Capital Advisors has signed up as the second major sponsor of this year’s World Chess Championship Match, which will be held in New York from November 11-30.
EG Capital will sponsor the event through a global partnership with World Chess by Agon, the commercial rights-holder for the organisation of World Chess Federation (FIDE) championship matches.
EG Capital becomes the second major sponsor of the match following the announcement last month of Russian fertiliser producer PhosAgro as a partner.
Michael Stanton, a member of EG Capital’s supervisory board and a founding partner of the company, said: “EG Capital is a very young and fast growing company and the World Chess Championship is the perfect vehicle for us to increase our brand awareness in key markets around the world. Chess is played and followed avidly by over 600 million people worldwide and I look forward to being able to introduce our business to this incredible audience.”
Defending champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway will take on Russian challenger Sergey Karjakin in the 12-game match, which will be held in the Fulton Market Building of Manhattan’s South Street Seaport district.
