The Singaporean S-League, the top tier of club football in the country, has named UK sports equipment manufacturer Mitre as its new football and product supplier.
As part of the five-year deal, the company will supply footballs for use in the S-League, the reserve-team Prime League, the Singapore Cup and League Cup knockout competitions, the Centre of Excellence youth league, the National Football League amateur championships and the non-league Island Wide division.
Mitre replaces Japanese sports equipment company Mikasa as the S-League’s football supplier.
S-League chief executive Lim Chin hopes the deal will mark the start of a more wide-ranging partnership. “Apart from having the most advanced football in the world, maybe in the future we can also do something with the clubs and the leagues as well,” he said.
“For Mitre, even though they have been around for the longest time, they are still trying to grow their brand in this region.”
Alfred Toh, general manager of Teamwork Sports, Mitre’s licensee in Singapore and Malaysia, added: “This partnership is a great opportunity for us to build brand awareness island-wide, whilst (also) creating new sales opportunities as football is watched and loved by many in Singapore.”
