Rugby Canada strikes gold with new sponsor

Vancouver-headquartered gold producer Goldcorp has struck a deal with the Rugby Canada governing body to become an official sponsor of the country’s national women's 15s and sevens teams.

The agreement will run for three years, from 2015 until 2017.

Under the deal, Goldcorp will become the exclusive front-of-jersey sponsor for the women’s 15s team and will also benefit from branding on the back of shorts for the women’s sevens team.

The agreement represents the first occasion that Goldcorp has sponsored an all-female professional sports team.

The Canadian women's team lost out to England in the final of the 2014 World Cup, while its sevens squad currently sit in second place on the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series circuit.
