Spanish energy company Repsol has renewed its contract as the main sponsor of Japanese manufacturer Honda’s MotoGP motorcycle-racing team.
The two-year extension will run until 2020, surpassing a 25-year anniversary in 2019.
Since 1995, Repsol Honda has won 13 rider World Championships in the premier class and taken 163 grand prix wins.
Under the agreement, Repsol will continue to be the team’s main sponsor and the supplier of fuel and lubricant for Honda’s bikes.
For the 2019 season, current World Championship leader Marc Márquez will link up with Jorge Lorenzo in Repsol Honda colours. Between the two they have won seven of the last eight MotoGP titles.
The two parties said that the collaboration between Repsol and Honda goes beyond conventional sports sponsorship and is reflected in a close relationship between the Honda laboratories in Saitama, Japan, and the Repsol Technology Center in Móstoles, Spain.
