Red Wings sign latest partner for new arena

US financial services company Comerica Bank has been named the third landmark partner of the new Detroit Events Center – the future home of NHL ice hockey franchise the Detroit Red Wings.

Comerica Bank, which was founded in Detroit, agreed the deal with sports and entertainment group Olympia Entertainment, which operates the Red Wings. The length of the agreement was not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Comerica Bank will become the sole sponsor of the Players Club premium suite inside the new arena. For Red Wings games, individuals that purchase Players Club season tickets will have an up close view of both the Red Wings and visiting team’s players as they make their way out to the ice and back to their respective locker rooms. Red Wings players will walk through the centre of the Players Club, providing what the team says will be the first experience of its kind in the market.

“This area will be bringing truly unique experiences to fans and visitors, not just for hockey games, but for concerts and other events as well,” Tom Wilson, president and chief executive of Olympia Entertainment, said. “We are very proud to have such a well-respected company associated with the Detroit Events Center.”

The Detroit Events Center is scheduled to open in September 2017 and Comerica Bank’s partnership with the arena will begin ahead of the 2017-18 NHL season.

Comerica Bank joins locally-based supermarket chain Meijer and Saint Joseph’s Mercy Healthcare as landmark partners of the arena.
