QuickStep seeks extension to cycling team sponsorship

Belgian flooring company QuickStep has said it is keen to extend its long-running title sponsorship of International Cycling Union (UCI) WorldTour team Omega Pharma-QuickStep, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

QuickStep has sponsored the Belgian team since 2003 and its current contract runs through the 2014 season.

Chief executive Frans de Cock said: “We will certainly continue. First, of course, we must see how sponsor Omega Pharma and (team chief executive) Patrick Lefevere see the future of the team. For 2014 we have a contract, but the coming months are the time to sit around the table to see how we can move forward.”

With 35 victories this season, Omega Pharma-QuickStep is the leading WorldTour team. Britain’s Mark Cavendish picked up the latest of these wins in Wednesday’s stage of the Tour de France.
