Business services provider Quess Corp has assumed title sponsorship rights for football’s historic East Bengal Club as part of an investment deal struck with the owners of the Kolkata-based outfit.
The club, which is nearly 100 years old, will be known as Quess East Bengal FC.
Under the deal, Quess Corp has reportedly acquired a 70-per-cent stake in the club.
Last year, the club passed up the chance to compete in the Indian Super League, citing financial issues and other reservations. It is hoped that with the fresh investment, the club, which has a large following in India, will be able to compete in the upper reaches of the league in the near future.
“This investment in a 98-year-old iconic football club, which is among the premium football clubs in India, enables Quess to develop its brand and at the same time contribute to sports participation and the development of football in the country,” Quess said.
