North American NHL ice hockey franchise the Pittsburgh Penguins has extended its partnership with banking group First Niagara.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it comes into effect during the upcoming 2015-16 season. First Niagara has been a significant sponsor of the NHL franchise since 2010 when it became the official retail bank of the Penguins.
As part of the new deal, First Niagara will become the official retail bank and the official credit card of the Penguins. The bank also becomes the 10th founding partner of the team, its top sponsorship designation.
First Niagara will receive branding presence at the Penguins’ home arena, the Consol Energy Center, and will receive advertising on the club’s radio network, as well as various other promotional benefits.
“Being a founding partner and the official retail bank of the Pittsburgh Penguins is an important part of First Niagara’s ongoing commitment to the western Pennsylvania community,” Todd Moules, First Niagara’s regional president, said.
The Penguins begin their 2015-16 NHL season at the Dallas Stars on October 8.
First Niagara Bank is also a sponsor and the official bank of rival NHL franchise Buffalo Sabres, a designation it has held since 2011 when the team's Buffalo, New York hockey arena became known as First Niagara Center.
