German Bundesliga football club Schalke 04 has secured a partnership with ORCA Enviro Systems, an Australian company that specialises in environmentally friendly solutions for the disposal of food waste.
The deal will run for three years, through to 2021.
ORCA will gain access to a range of advertising rights at the club’s Veltins-Arena, including a branding presence on LED advertising boards inside the venue and the opportunity for product presentations in catering areas.
In addition, as part of the deal, ORCA will work with the club to run an official ‘Knappen-Fußballschule’ Schalke football school in the Australian city of Sydney.
Schalke’s head of marketing, Alexander Jobst, said: “Our club has a very distinct social responsibility due to the club’s high importance in the area as well as for our fans and members. In terms of environmental protection, the future cooperation is made all the more interesting for us by the fact that, with the help of their products, ORCA can now extract water from biological waste in the Veltins-Arena.”
Bill Papas, chief executive and managing director of ORCA, added: “In the coming years, we are expanding into the European market. In this context, FC Schalke 04 with its size, its commitment to social responsibility and its unique Veltins-Arena is the ideal partner for us.”
