Opel upgrades to Feyenoord shirt fronts

DUTCH EREDIVISIE outfit Feyenoord has signed a four-year, front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with German car manufacturer Opel.

The deal, which will come into effect at the start of the 2013-14 season, will see the Opel logo grace the front of the Rotterdam-based side’s first team shirts, as well as its youth team kit, until 2017.

In addition to the shirt sponsorship, Feyenoord players and staff members will be provided with the latest Opel models to help promote the partnership.

Although the financial terms of the deal have not been officially released, Opel are believed to be paying around €5 million ($6.5 million) per year.

“Opel is one of the leading car manufacturers in Europe. It’s good for the image of our club that such a reputable brand has signed a multi-year contract to connect with us,” said Feyenoord commercial director Mark Koevermans.

“The long history that Opel and Feyenoord already shares also shows that the two strong brands work very well together. We are convinced that Opel is the best possible partner for the coming years.”

Opel previously sponsored the Dutch side between 1984 and 1989, and has been the club’s car supplier since 2010.
