US financial services company Northwestern Mutual has reached a deal with the Tiger Woods Foundation to become the title sponsor of its 15th annual World Challenge golf event.
Northwestern Mutual was the 2012 presenting sponsor of the World Challenge and has opted to expand into the title sponsor role for 2013.
This year’s competition takes place between December 2 and December 8 at Sherwood Country Club, Thousand Oaks, California.
World No.1 and tournament founder Tiger Woods will compete alongside 17 other leading golfers for the $1m (€766,000) top prize. Proceeds benefit the college-access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation.
In 2012, Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell won the event, which is co-sponsored by the PGA Tour, thanks to a four-under-par final round that put him three strokes clear of Keegan Bradley of the US.
