Health insurance company Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has entered into a partnership with US Major League Soccer franchise the New York Red Bulls.
The deal, the length of which was not disclosed, names the non-profit organisation as the official health insurance partner of the club.
To mark the beginning of the partnership, the club on Wednesday held an open day featuring training drills, health sessions and meet-and-greets for local students. Horizon and the Red Bulls will jointly organise a number of other community-focused initiatives, such as health awareness campaigns, training sessions and volunteer activities.
As part of the deal, Horizon members will receive access to discounted tickets for Red Bulls games, while the club’s Red Bull Arena home ground will also operate a Horizon Healthy Zone area, which will offer health screenings and information during games.
In addition, healthy food options will be served up in the Horizon Healthy Goal Concession stand at the Red Bull Arena. Further fan activations will be organised for match days, while Horizon will serve as the game sponsor for the Red Bulls’ home fixture against Columbus Crew on October 16.
“The New York Red Bulls are a community-minded organisation that shares Horizon’s commitment to improving the health and wellness of New Jersey residents of all ages,” Christopher M. Lepre, senior vice-president of marketing business units for Horizon, said. “By working together, we can help educate and motivate more people to get active, make smart choices and lead healthier lives.
“Soccer is the fastest-growing sport in America and millions of New Jerseyans watch or play, so aligning with the Red Bulls is the perfect way for us to connect better with the fans, young and old, who are so passionate about this great sport.”
