Insurance company MetLife has extended and expanded its partnership with golf’s PGA Tour.
The new agreement will run until 2020. MetLife will retain its title as the official life insurance company of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, and will now also serve as the official worksite benefits sponsor of both circuits.
As part of the expanded partnership, the PGA Tour and MetLife have launched a new broadcast feature, MetLife MatchUp.
The feature will recognise players who best utilise their skills to navigate the Tour’s most demanding holes and will act as a season-long contest, with fans to decide which players struck the most difficult shots. The winner of the MetLife MatchUp feature will receive a $1m (€933,000) prize, with fan-selected winning shots to be pitted against each other.
“MetLife has developed an engaging program for fans and players that will highlight the extraordinary skills of PGA Tour players and their ability to adapt to ever-changing situations during competition,” Brian Oliver, the PGA Tour’s senior vice-president of sponsorship and partnerships, said. “We’re excited to introduce the MetLife MatchUp as a featured component of our sponsorship extension with MetLife.”
