French Ligue 1 football club Olympique de Marseille has agreed a lucrative new kit deal with German sportswear brand Puma.
The long-term partnership comes into effect on July 1, 2018 and names Puma as the global technical supplier and official licensing partner of Marseille.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but French newspaper L'Équipe said the deal would be worth nearly €15m ($16.3m) per season across a five-year term. Puma will replace Adidas, which currently pays a basic €10m per season, as Marseille’s kit supplier at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud said: “OM will be the most important sports club for Puma in France and we have been very impressed by the will of its managers to actively support us on an international scale. It is a tremendous show of confidence for our ‘OM Champion Project’.
“This contract will provide us significant annual incomes required to allow us to achieve our sports objectives. It is the most important commercial contract in the history of the club.”
Marseille is currently fifth in Ligue 1 after 30 games of the 2016-17 season. The club will serve as one of Puma’s key European partners alongside the likes of German Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund, and English Premier League pair Arsenal and Leicester City.
