North America’s Major League Baseball has renewed its Game of Thrones-focused partnership with US pay-television broadcaster HBO.
MLB first partnered with HBO in March 2017 ahead of the seventh season of the broadcaster’s hit show.
The new deal will result in a range of Games of Thrones-themed events, giveaways, ticket specials and experiences being launched during the 2018 MLB season. Tickets for Game of Thrones events are now on sale to fans.
Last year’s partnership was activated across more than 20 MLB ballparks. Initiatives included MLB player and mascot bobbleheads, video board games, special food and drinks at concession stands, co-branded t-shirts and caps, Game of Thrones costume contests and Snapchat filters. Fans were also able to pose for pictures on a replica of the show’s famous Iron Throne.
Highlights of last year’s partnership included San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy conducting his post-game press conference on the Throne. The partnership was promoted across social media using the #GoTMLB hashtag and within MLB’s Ballpark mobile app.
The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is scheduled to air on HBO in 2019.
