French Ligue 1 football club Olympique Lyonnais has entered into a partnership with transportation network company Uber.
The deal, the length of which was not disclosed, coincides with Lyon moving to its new Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium, which opened earlier this month. The partnership commenced yesterday (Sunday) ahead of the club’s home game against Olympique de Marseille.
Lyon supporters were able to utilise the partnership to travel to and from the game, which finished 1-1, in an Uber taxi. The club’s mobile application, Parc OL, will soon incorporate Uber’s technology, making it easier for fans to utilise the service.
“Uber allows us to extend the use of technology to optimise and facilitate the movement of spectators at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais with ease,” Lyon’s head of commercial marketing and strategy, Harry Moyal, said.
Uber in November entered into a similar partnership with NFL American football franchise the Jacksonville Jaguars, but this is its first such agreement in the European market.
