Korean skating connects with SK Telecom

South Korean mobile carrier SK Telecom has agreed a long-term sponsorship deal for the country’s national speed skating team.

SK Telekom will pay the Korea Skating Union W650m (€468,000/$584,000) per year over four years, from 2014-15 to 2017-18.

The company has also committed to supporting the national governing body’s domestic competitions and grassroots programmes.

South Korea, which will host the 2018 winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, won two speed skating medals at Sochi 2014, including a gold for Lee Sang-hwa (pictured) in the women’s 500m.
