Kenya Airways has agreed a two-year extension to its sponsorship of Kenya’s sevens rugby union team in a deal worth 400m Kenyan shillings ($4.6m/€3.5m), according to the Star Africa website.
The new deal is worth 100m Kenyan shillings more than the existing two-year agreement. Titus Naikuni, Kenya Airways chief executive officer, said this increase is in recognition of the team’s performances throughout the previous deal.
Kenya reached the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens semi-final earlier this year, where it lost 12-5 to England. The team eventually finished fourth after losing 19-5 to Fiji in the third place play-off match.
Naikuni confirmed the new sponsorship deal is due to be finalised later this week.
