NBA basketball team Brooklyn Nets has reached a deal with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) to make the specialist orthopaedic treatment facility the naming rights partner of its new training base.
The eighth floor and rooftop site in Industry City overlooking New York Harbor will become the Nets’ HQ from the 2015-16 NBA season.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but HSS will receive branding on the interior and exterior of the training centre and the Nets practice jerseys will feature its logo. The hospital will have the opportunity to host events for patients and physicians at the facility, which will include participation from Brooklyn Nets players, coaches, and strength and conditioning staff.
Building on an established nine-year relationship with the team, HSS also becomes the official hospital of Brooklyn Nets from the 2014-15 season. This designation grants HSS signage, player appearances, integration into a grassroots community marketing activation, and content on BrooklynNets.com.
“The new HSS Training Center highlights the importance of sports medicine and performance training working seamlessly and collaboratively in the approach to player care,” Dr. Riley J Williams, a sports medicine surgeon at HSS and the Nets’ medical director since 2005, said.
“NBA basketball is a physically challenging sport that is played over many months. A close knit relationship between the team and its medical personnel is vital to injury prevention, effective treatment and ultimately the professional athlete’s return to play.”
