Gold Coast 2018 claims world-first partnership with MinterEllison

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) has agreed a three-year deal with leading Australian law firm MinterEllison in what it claims is a world-first partnership for a major sporting event.

As the official lawyers of Gold Coast 2018, MinterEllison will provide a fully outsourced legal and brand protection service to GOLDOC – embedding a team of experienced lawyers within the organising corporation and drawing in national specialist advisers as required.

MinterEllison’s embedded team will advise across a broad range of areas, including sponsorship, brand protection, broadcasting, ticketing, licensing, ceremony production, venue use, overlay construction and major procurements.

MinterEllison chief executive Tony Harrington said: “Everyone at the firm is proud and tremendously excited to be involved in delivering the largest sporting event in Australia this decade. When the curtain falls on the closing ceremony in April 2018, MinterEllison will be the only law firm in Australia, and quite possibly the world, with complete end-to-end major event project experience."

MinterEllison becomes the second official supporter of the next edition of the multi-sport event, with professional services group KPMG having signed on in December.
