The International Ski Federation (FIS) has moved to address problems concerning a lack of snow at some of its events by partnering with TechnoAlpin, a market leader in snow-making technology.
TechnoAlpin will serve as a product partner of FIS for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. The partnership also names the company as an official supplier of the federation’s Bring Children to the Snow youth initiative for the 2016-17 season.
TechnoAlpin will cooperate with national ski associations, event organisers and ski resorts and offer its services when required.
The FIS said the partnership will result in close cooperation and advice in the area of snow making under the consideration of environmental aspects, through the provision of TechnoAlpin snow-making units to help deal with short-term snow shortage.
“TechnoAlpin is a welcome partner for our organisers to help them at the last moment if the weather has not permitted sufficient snow cover,” FIS president Gian Franco Kasper said. “This may mean the difference between organising or cancelling an event.”
Warm temperatures and a lack of snow have presented a problem for FIS in recent months. Last November, the body was forced to cancel a World Cup slalom event in Finland due to unseasonable weather conditions. January’s Ski Cross World Cup in La Plagne, France also had to be relocated to Watles in Italy due to a lack of snow.
