Global courier company FedEx has reached a sponsorship agreement with the International Premier Tennis League, which commenced today (Friday) in the Philippines.
The inaugural edition of the franchise-based tournament, featuring leading players Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova alongside former greats such as Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, will run until December 13 across four host cities – Manila, Dubai, Singapore and Mumbai.
FedEx has an established presence in tennis through deals with the French Open grand slam tournament at Roland-Garros and the Association of Tennis Professionals men’s tour. Terms of its agreement with the IPTL were not disclosed.
The first match of the IPTL saw the Indian Aces, featuring Federer, Sampras and Ana Ivanovic, take on Williams, Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt’s Singapore Slammers.
