South African professional services firm EY has announced a sponsorship agreement with the South African Football Association.
The terms of the deal were undisclosed but the South African arm of Ernst & Young said in a statement that it hoped to make “a real difference in contributing to the development of the next generation of sport in our country” throughout the term of the agreement.
Danny Jordaan, president of SAFA, said: “Corporate governance in sport is a major area of debate in South Africa and the rest of the world. It is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. There is nothing more important to SAFA than good corporate governance; it is the rock on which I want to build this organisation.”
In October, petrochemicals company Sasol expanded its partnership with the SAFA by becoming the first corporate sponsor of its Development Agency (SDA) programme.
The SAFA is working to rebuild its commercial roster after sportswear brand Puma ended its partnership with the organisation and financial services group Absa opted not to extend in light of match-fixing allegations relating to matches played by the national team in the build-up to the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
