Emirates has agreed to become a presenting partner and the official airline of basketball’s 2014 Fiba U-17 World Championship in Dubai.
Emirates struck the deal with the UAE Basketball Association, which will host the national team competition, marking the first time that a world championship operated by Fiba, basketball’s global governing body, has been staged in the Middle East.
The agreement also marks Emirates’ first ever involvement with an international basketball tournament.
UAE Basketball Association president Ismail Al Gargawi said: “One of our most iconic local companies has pledged its support for basketball. This will help us organise an unforgettable event for participants, visitors and locals alike.”
The 2014 Fiba Under-17 World Championship will run from August 8-16.
