Beer and soft drinks manufacturer Delta Beverages has announced a three-year extension to its sponsorship of Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League.
The PSL, which is title sponsored by Delta’s Castle Lager brand, will benefit from $3.6m (€2.6m) over the course of the agreement – an increase from the $1.8m figure the league received over the past three-year period.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Delta’s marketing executive Max Karombo said: “Delta Beverages' level of investment has gone up from $600,000 to $1.2m per season, therefore doubling the investment. Although our agreement is subject to review every year, Delta Beverages will therefore invest a total of $3.6m in direct cash investment in the Premier Soccer League for the next three years.”
As part of the agreement, Delta is backing a new Super Cup involving all 16 PSL clubs, with its Chibuku beer taking the naming sponsorship.
“We felt we should should introduce a spicer between the league race,” Karombo told SuperSport. “In England and Spain the league race is shaped by the fortunes and misfortunes of the FA Cup or King’s Cup (Copa del Rey).”
