Indian Premier League cricket team Delhi Daredevils has sealed sponsorship deals with online classifieds portal Quikr and airport retailer Delhi Duty Free on the eve of the 2014 edition of the annual Twenty20 tournament.
Quikr takes the front of shirt branding for Delhi Daredevils in its first move into the IPL. The partnership was unveiled when Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen and vice-captain Dinesh Karthik launched the franchise’s new kit over the weekend.
Pranay Chuletm, chief executive and founder of Quikr, told IBN Live: “Although I cannot talk about the details of the contract we are hopeful that it will be a long-term association with Delhi Daredevils which will prove to be mutually beneficial to both the parties.”
The opening stages of this year’s IPL will be played in the UAE across Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi from April 16-30 and Delhi Duty Free expects inbound and outbound tourists attending games to boost its sales.
Along with activations and exposure through Delhi Daredevils, Delhi Duty Free is set to retail official team merchandise. The terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
Abhijeet Das, head of marketing at Delhi Duty Free, told Hindu Business Line: “We expect a 25-30 per cent jump in footfalls during the current year. The intent is to reach budget travellers. We hope a large chunk of footfall will come from passengers travelling to watch the matches.”
Delhi Duty Free follows its Dubai counterpart into sports sponsorship. Dubai Duty Free has deals in place with the Dubai Desert Classic on golf’s European Tour and the Women’s Tennis Association.
