The Canadian Hockey League, which oversees the organisation of the world’s largest development ice hockey competition, has entered into a partnership with insurance company Wawanesa.
The multi-year deal names Wawanesa as the official auto/home insurance company of the CHL, as well as the Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League member competitions.
The agreement includes sponsorship of 34 CHL teams in the OHL and the QMJHL, with Wawanesa to activate its partnership at various games across Canada.
Wawanesa will benefit from advertising exposure during television broadcasts of regular-season games, play-off fixtures, the Canada Russia Series, the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and the Memorial Cup.
“What attracted us to the CHL and its leagues was how closely it fits with our long history of insuring communities from coast to coast in Canada,” Keith Hartry, chief operating officer of the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company, said. “Like the CHL, we are committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work.”
