Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Atlético Mineiro has extended its shirt sponsorship deal with government-owned banking group Caixa.
The new one-year deal will cover the 2017 season. Caixa first teamed up with Atlético ahead of the 2016 campaign.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the Maquina do Esporte website reported that the deal would be worth close to R$12.5m (€3.8m/$4m), the fee Caixa paid to the club last year.
Caixa’s branding will continue to feature on the front of the team’s shirts as part of the agreement, as well as on the back.
Caixa holds shirt sponsorship agreements with a host of Brazilian clubs. The only team that has not renewed its main sponsor agreement with the bank since last season is Chapecoense, which last week announced a partnership with food distribution company Aurora. Caixa is negotiating a deal with Chapecoense for its branding to feature on another area of the shirt.
