Government-owned bank Caixa Economica Federal has agreed shirt sponsorship deals with Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football clubs Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro.
Both clubs have agreed one-year deals with the bank ahead of the 2016 season. Caixa had been in negotiations with Atlético and Cruzeiro since the conclusion of the 2015 Serie A campaign in December and has now reached official agreements with the clubs.
The agreements with Caixa will be worth R$12.5m (€2.85m/$3.1m) apiece to the two clubs.
Caixa will be prominent on both the front and back of Cruzeiro’s playing jerseys and replaces the supermarkets chain BH as the club’s main sponsor. Engineering company MRV was Atlético’s main shirt sponsor last season.
Cruzeiro president Gilvan de Pinho Tavares said: “The new sponsor will join other partners who were already on our uniform and decided to stay on the club shirt, especially Supermercados BH, who agreed to give the master space (to Caixa) and will stamp its brand elsewhere.”
