Consumer goods company Bidco Africa has become a major sponsor of the Kenya Rugby Union's sevens teams.
The three-year agreement will result in Bidco’s branding featuring on the back of the men’s team’s shirts during the 2017-18 World Rugby Series, the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The partnership also incorporates back-of-shirt sponsorship for Kenya’s women’s sevens team.
Bidco will also support the KRU’s schools and development programmes, as well as initiatives focusing on diet and nutrition.
Bidco Africa group director Chris Diaz said: “We wish to support sports in Kenya and our men’s and women’s rugby sports teams are doing Kenya proud. We will continue to support the team for the next three years to develop rugby Kenya-wide and encourage youngsters in schools and universities to bring out their talent in sports, and position Kenya as a great sporting nation.”
Online sports betting firm SportPesa is the other main sponsor of Kenyan rugby sevens, with its branding appearing on the front of the team’s shirts.
Kenya’s men’s team began its 2017-18 World Rugby Series season today (Friday) with a 48-5 defeat against South Africa in Dubai.
