THE INTERNATIONAL PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE (IPC) has extended its deal with Atos for the IT services firm to remain its worldwide IT Partner until 2016.
Atos began its involvement with the Paralympic Movement in 2002, serving as the IT Partner of each Summer and winter Paralympic Games until 2008, before becoming the Worldwide IT Partner of the IPC in 2008.
The contract extension covers the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games and the Rio 2016 Paralympic Summer Games.
Under the agreement Atos will also provide technology expertise and support for over 20 other major para-sport events, including July’s IPC Athletics World Championships.
“At Atos we strongly believe in and support the Paralympic Movement and are delighted to be able to extend our long-term relationship through to 2016,” said Patrick Abida, chief executive of Iberia, major events and Olympic and Paralympic Games at Atos.
“Our business technologists will continue to write history for the Paralympic Movement. This helps the IPC to stage world class events and bring the sporting excellence of the Paralympics to an international audience.”
Atos will provide the IPC with scoring and timing services, as well as continuing to manage and run the IPC website. The company will also continue its engagement in joint fund-raising activities.
