Saudi Professional League football club Al-Ahli has opted to end its shirt sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways.
The Jeddah-based club announced the termination of the deal via its Twitter account earlier today (Monday) following the news that Saudi Arabia had cut its diplomatic ties with Qatar. Al-Ahli said it had taken the decision to meet government guidelines.
Saudi Arabia, along with Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, have moved to close down all land, sea and air routes to Qatar due to the latter’s relations with Iran and alleged support of Islamist groups.
Qatar Airways renewed its partnership with Al-Ahli last month. The three-year deal had been due to run until 2020. The two parties first teamed up in 2014.
