Online marketplace and hospitality service Airbnb has been named as an official supporter of the 2018 winter Olympic Games, which will take place in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Airbnb has been assigned the online accommodation marketing services sponsorship category for the Games.
As part of the agreement, Airbnb will promote Gangwon tourist attractions on its website and mobile application, and provide spectators with alternative accommodation options during their stay in the region.
Airbnb earlier this year signed a separate agreement with the Gangwon Province to provide lodging solutions during the Games.
The latest agreement comes amid concern over a lack of rooms, and the affordability of such rooms, ahead of next year’s Games. Korean news agency Yonhap said that following the Gangwon agreement the number of Airbnb accommodations in the area increased 30 per cent in six months from 1,650 in December last year to 2,134 in June.
Airbnb agreed a similar partnership with the organising committee of the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 2018 winter Olympics are due to run from February 9-25, with the Paralympics to follow from March 9-18.
