Online sports betting company Unibet has agreed a deal to serve as title sponsor of the Professional Darts Corporation’s inaugural Champions League event this year.
The tournament, which will now be known as the Unibet Champions League, will take place at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales, from September 24-25. The event will also benefit from coverage by UK public-service broadcaster the BBC.
The Champions League will feature the eight players ranked highest by the PDC after its World Matchplay in July. Players will then be drawn into two groups, with the top two from each progressing to compete in the semi-finals and final.
PDC chairman Barry Hearn said: “This unique tournament will be another great showcase for the ever-growing Unibet brand, and we look forward to working with them for this eagerly-awaited championship, which will receive huge national and international exposure through the BBC.”
Unibet has established a presence on the professional darts circuit through its sponsorship of the European Championship and Masters, as well as the new World Grand Prix that will take place for the first time in October.
