Online betting brand Betway will pay around $1m per year for shirt sponsorship and stadium naming rights attached to Uganda Premier League club Express FC.
The three-year deal, worth UGX400m ($1m) per year, will cover three sets of team apparel, training kits, naming rights to the stadium, the welfare of the team and travelling kit, according to local press reports.
“We have finally hit the jackpot,” said club chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka. “This sponsorship is attached to players’ welfare, therefore as management we can’t use that money unless the players are catered for.”
The Kampala-based Express’s other sponsors are Equity Bank and Buganda Land Board.
