The Six Nations rugby union tournament is seeking a new title sponsor after financial services group the Royal Bank of Scotland confirmed it would step down from the role following the 2017 event.
RBS has served as title sponsor of the national team tournament since 2003. The bank’s chief marketing officer David Wheldon said: “It has been a long and successful partnership which has brought tangible benefits to our business. However, as a bank we are now looking at realigning our sponsorship strategy to our customer facing brands, so we feel the time is right to look for alternative sponsorship assets that better fit with our brand strategy.”
RBS signed a four-year extension to its deal with the Six Nations in 2013. The renewal was believed to be worth around €55m ($62.4m).
The 2017 Six Nations will be held from February 4 to March 18.
