Financial services company DirectAxis has reached an agreement with the South African Rugby Union to sponsor the Currie Cup domestic competition.
DirectAxis will serve as an official partner of the Currie Cup alongside business solutions provider Nashua, which last month signed on as the competition’s main and title sponsor. DirectAxis’ four-year deal will cover the 2016 to 2019 editions of the tournament.
“This partnership is a landmark deal because for the first time we will have two official partners to the competition as part of our new sponsorship structure, while this is also the first time DirectAxis is involved at a national level in the game,” SARU chief executive Jurie Roux said.
As part of the agreement, DirectAxis will organise fan engagement events at Currie Cup games. It will also offer R250,000 (€16,500/$18,300) in scholarships to supporters over the course of the competition and launch ticket giveaways.
The Currie Cup’s new sponsorship structure allows for a handful of sponsors, each sharing equal advertising rights.
The 2016 Currie Cup began on Friday.
