The Fiji Rugby Union has confirmed that Fiji Water will be the title sponsor for its 2013 Centennial Sevens tournament.
Sixteen international rugby sevens teams, including Australia, France and Argentina, will take part in the event, which is sanctioned by rugby union’s world governing body the IRB.
All the action will be staged at ANZ Stadium in Suva on October 4-5 as the FRU celebrates 100 years of rugby in Fiji.
FRU director and marketing sub-committee chairman Billy Singh believes the first international sevens tournament the country has hosted for 13 years can help boost the union’s hopes of a Fijian leg being included in the IRB’s global Sevens World Series competition.
He said: “This tournament will allow our fellow Fijians to witness international sevens teams play on their home soil, something they would have only seen on television during the IRB Sevens Series. It will not only boost tourism here in Fiji but also business houses here in Suva. Moving forward, this partnership between Fiji Water and Fiji Rugby proves that there are bigger and better things yet to come in terms of rugby here in Fiji.”
