Dubai-based airline Emirates has agreed a two-year extension to its sponsorship deal with US football club New York Cosmos.
In June 2013, Emirates became a founding partner of the Cosmos, along with its front of shirt sponsor, ahead of the historic club’s return to the North American Soccer League.
The Cosmos arrived in Dubai last week for a pre-season training visit and the club’s honorary president and former player, Brazilian superstar Pele, was present to launch the new Emirates deal on Sunday.
Pele went on to give a talk to the assembled crowd on the highlights of his glittering career. The event was filmed and will be screened on Emirates’ in-flight entertainment system.
The Cosmos went on to win the Fall Championship and Soccer Bowl in their first season back in the second-tier NASL. It kicks off the 2014 campaign with a home match against Atlanta Silverbacks on April 13.
