UAE-based aluminium producer Emirates Global Aluminium has agreed a deal to sponsor the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship golf event.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but EGA will serve as a presenting sponsor of the tournament, which forms part of the European Tour’s Desert Swing series.
The event, which is held at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, will now be known as the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA.
EGA also sponsors the other UAE-based Desert Swing event, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
His Excellency Aref Al Awani, general secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, which hosts the HSBC Championship, said: “We have been working behind the scenes for some time to secure strong, local support for the Championship to allow us to expand its reach. This deal brings significant benefits to the tournament, our new partner and the UAE community at large.
“It gives us more resources to yet again improve the overall spectator experience, will deliver greater local, regional and international exposure for EGA and further bolster our efforts to boost the golf following here in the UAE and to our valuable visitor base.”
Next year’s HSBC Championship takes place from January 18-21. England's Tommy Fleetwood (pictured) is the defending champion.
