The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) has agreed a deal for Zambia’s Mopani Copper Mines to become the new title sponsor of its U-20 Championships youth-level national team tournament.
Terms of the agreement were undisclosed, but it was confirmed that the deal will cover this year’s edition of the competition, which takes place from December 6-16 in the company’s native Zambia.
The tournament will now be known as the Mopani Copper Mines Cosafa U-20 Championships, with the company to also serve as a strategic partner of Cosafa for the event.
Mopani Copper Mines is already affiliated with football in Zambia, through its sponsorship of the country’s U-20 team that took part in the Fifa U-20 World Cup in South Korea this year.
In addition, Mopani Copper Mines sponsors Nkana FC and Mufulira Wanderers FC, both of which play in the Zambia Super Division League top-tier domestic club competition.
