UNDER PRESSURE German energy utility RWE is reported to have opened a dialogue with Russia’s Gazprom over a joint venture to build gas and coal-fired power stations. The group, which sponsors sport and the arts in Germany and the Football League in UK via its nPower subsidiary, is responding to plans to phase out nuclear power in its home market. Russian giant Gazprom, a Sochi 2014 Olympic sponsor, has long harboured ambitions to influence the market for its gas with control of power generation in Europe.
