Puma says outdated regulations prevent it going green

TRAINING SHOE and apparel brand Puma claims it is forced to charge more for its environmentally friendly shoes than it does for conventional products. The company called for an end to import duties which prejudice against innovation and make it expensive to switch to green production.  Puma chairman Jochen Zeitz released internal research by the company which showed that the environmental impact of its standard suede sports shoes was nearly 30 per cent higher than for cotton and linen alternatives made without leather and with a biodegradable plastic sole.
